With the presence of schools, shops, and a business center, the N111 is not only an important regional road but also forms the central axis in the town center of the municipality. Therefore, efforts will be made to ensure that through traffic in one direction is always possible during the works. Access to schools, shops, and businesses will be individually assessed to provide tailored solutions.
The municipality of Stabroek has developed a clear vision for optimal water management on its territory, where a thorough separation of rainwater and wastewater plays a central role. The construction of a double RWA and DWA sewer system, including large overflow structures and a buffer basin, puts this vision into practice.
We at BESIX Infra fully understand the significant impact that road and sewer works can have on the neighborhood. Therefore, we pay a lot of attention to clear communication with residents in all our projects.
For the project in Stabroek, we specifically developed the brochure "Attention to Safe Roadworks," which was distributed to students at nearby schools. In this brochure, we explain to students how to move safely through the construction zone. This way, we ensure that the works are carried out safely for everyone.
In the same style as the brochure, posters were also designed and displayed in the shops.
After completion of the works, the N111 will be much safer for all road users. Currently, the road layout is primarily focused on motorized traffic. The construction of new one-way bike lanes on both sides of the road will change that.
In addition, the traffic situation will be adjusted so that parking will be much safer and more efficient. In the school area, a redesigned kiss-and-ride zone will ensure that dropping off and picking up children can be done safely and without conflict.
Furthermore, greenery will be planted, making Dorpsstraat and Laageind a pleasant place to live, work, and shop.
