To ensure the safety of all road users, the residential zone principle is applied. The street layout includes chicanes to reduce speed. Additional bicycle parking facilities are provided, and visibility at street corners is enhanced to ensure a safe environment for cyclists.
The design emphasizes the preservation and addition of green spaces wherever possible, without compromising parking availability. Wide street gardens will be created in areas where space allows. The plan also addresses climate adaptation by facilitating the infiltration of rainwater into the soil and providing sufficient open space with planting beds.
During the works in Volmolenstraat, remnants of an old fulling mill were discovered. In consultation with the consultancy firm, these historical elements will be integrated into the new street layout, ensuring the preservation of the site’s historical value.
