Complete redevelopment of Nieuwpoort and surrounding areas

A sustainable and safe living environment
In the execution of this project, creating a pleasant living environment and ensuring traffic safety are key priorities. The design, developed by the consultancy firm, focuses on establishing an area where pedestrians and cyclists can move comfortably and safely. The project area is designed as a residential zone, with special attention to traffic safety and accessibility.

Traffic safety and accessibility

To ensure the safety of all road users, the residential zone principle is applied. The street layout includes chicanes to reduce speed. Additional bicycle parking facilities are provided, and visibility at street corners is enhanced to ensure a safe environment for cyclists.

Green spaces and climate adaptation

The design emphasizes the preservation and addition of green spaces wherever possible, without compromising parking availability. Wide street gardens will be created in areas where space allows. The plan also addresses climate adaptation by facilitating the infiltration of rainwater into the soil and providing sufficient open space with planting beds.

Respect for historical elements

During the works in Volmolenstraat, remnants of an old fulling mill were discovered. In consultation with the consultancy firm, these historical elements will be integrated into the new street layout, ensuring the preservation of the site’s historical value.
